The Mooning of Pakistan

Stung by intense criticism of the cretinism of Pakistan's maulvis and their perennial inability to reconcile even the basic concepts of natural science with their warped ideas of religion, the Ruet-e-Hilal (Moon-Sighting) Committee has this year attempted to allay some of the concerns by going out of their way to address them...

Here's Mufti "I Love Muftas" Muneebur Rehman, head of the central Ruet Committee attempting to sight the moon...

Meanwhile, here's Peshawar mosque Qasim Jan's Mufti Shahabuddin Popalzai, head of his own Ruet Committee attempting to do a moon landing in his own inimitable style...

First of Ramzan mubarak. Or Second of Ramzan. Or whatever. And don't miss the full moon on the 12th of Ramzan.

  1. This is ridiculous. Why are you making fun of "muftis" or "molvees" when the whole nation is confused about every single thing in life? This is our failure as a society in whole. These are the "muftis" and "molvees" due to which we still know about Islam and Allah. I think you should apologize over this post.

And yet, they choose to remain silent over this controversial issue, year after year. When will they speak out?

  5. an old story: (somewhere very farm from saudi arab) a mullah boasted for several hours how he was seeing, and receiving instructions from, the chief mullah of the masjid-e-madina.

later, at the dawat, the mullah refused to eat as all others but he had gosht on the top of the chawal in their plates. he complained and was told that the bhotis of gosht were deliberately hidden under the chawal to see if he really saw things.

moral: mufti muneeb can't even see his own d**k, forget the moon

  10. Personally, I kinda agree with Mr. Zia. I'd rather do much nastier things to maulvis than make fun of them. :P

  14. Well, thank you for all your comments. But all I wanted to say is that it is a lot easier to criticize others for all the wrong. Just place yourself along with others in life and ask what good have you achieved yet? And you may be surprised to know that the answer is... 'just nothing except making fun of people (muftis and mullahs), who at least don't make fun of others.' Very pathetic to you! The funniest thing is that with the line of thought presented here, we still wonder why we are in such a bad. Well, I will leave you here with your "wisdom" and "fun".

  15. Well, I'm no fan of mufti muneeb but just for the sake of knowledge, what wrong has he done this time, only. And about Populzai, he is a crap, it's a pity that he has some brainless followers. One at least, should consider sensibility and reason before following a certain path.

  16. Embrace the spirit of Ramadan - this especially is not the time to make fun of a fellow Muslim! You're witty and sharp, I hope you put it to good use!

Sometimes it scares me when educated people talk about "maulvis" as if they are a different species - it's the same kind of bigotry the "others" use to talk about so-called secularists. You've never met a good guy with a beard?

This sounds more like a typical Pakistani class issue... clerics are usually from the lower or lower-middle class, because in this country many people feel that only "slow' people need to go into Islamic study.. thus they have different/limited perspectives, which our society encourages by pre-deciding who they will be, through restrictive stereotypes... we should be encouraging our brightest and bravest to reclaim corrupted fields like governance, the police forces, and yes, Islamic education! And since this guy didn't do anything particularly harmful in this case you could've laid off! We need sharp minds to be clear minds... otherwise they are just sharp, and that cuts.

  17. First Ramadan Mubarik!

Now people first of all if you know science or business or you have done Phd in these stuff this really does not qualify that you can understand the whole law (Sharia) of Islam based upon that knowledge.

And yes also your Islamyat of Primary or Secondary or Higher don't make you an Alim as well.

I am sure alot of us will not know how to do Wudu or Gusal and many will say what the big deal....

So if you have better ideas regarding an Islamic Issue please show your authority on the subject as well.

I am dead sure if your mother or father or someone close become ill (Allah Forbid) and develop some serious issue, you on the basis that you can read English and have a blog and also have studied science to certain degree would be able to treat your father, mother etc.

Yes, you can ask why this is happening and what is the cure.

The issue of Ramadan is that it starts by Moon Sighting through naked eye. This is the simplicity and practicality of ISLAM. There is a difference in moon sighting through naked eye which US Naval Dept cannot predict even and birth of Moon which can be predicted.

A Crash Course is Fiqa is important, learn it and then comment.

Also I hope you will make this Ramadan Special as Hz Jibraeel Said "Halak ho Jaee wo shakhas jis nay Ramadan Paya or Magfirat na Karwaee" Our Beloved Prophet HZ MUHAMMAD S.A.W said "Ameen"
