So we hear that Arifa Noor, the current editor of the Herald will be taking over as the Resident Editor of Dawn in Islamabad once Zaffar Abbas moves to Karachi to take over as the Editor of Dawn. Current Dawn Editor Abbas Nasir is likely to relinquish charge by July.
No news yet on who Arifa Noor's replacement will be.
Interesting choice. I wanted to ask those with experience of working with her about how good she is, professionally speaking. A good choice, IMO.
ReplyDeleteHerald is probably Dawn's most journalistically sound publication, it'll be interesting if that'll be transferred to the main publication.
ReplyDeleteFrom what I can tell her present colleagues hold her in the highest regard.
well i hope she's better at this than when she was a professor... her classes at LUMS were interesting form afar, but quite staid and unimaginative
ReplyDeleteDawn is having some "Surkhi Powder" criticism policy, i have experience while commenting their blogs entries, they mostly tweet comments before actually publishing it. Even today they completely took out my comment's text that was written against PML-N Punjab Assembly bills, the comment is made as soft as it could digest by idiot ass Provincial Assembly members, and their head Shahbaz Blade!
ReplyDeleteFrom what we hear, Omar R. Qureshi will be joining too, to replace someone.
ReplyDeleteWhy is OR.Q so desperate to leave ET?
ReplyDeletecant say. i hear he's not exactly having a lovely time there. anyway, good luck to him. actually,Isn't ET supposed to launch this month?
ReplyDeleteDear XYZ,
ReplyDeleteWhen am 'I', as opposed to 'we', going to read about one of the most anticipated, talked-about real estate transaction's details on your more-credible-than-the-Pakistan-newspapers-and-tv blog? Asif Zardari is buying Faqir Aya'z's palatial early 20th century Pari merchant prince's mansion, right opposite the Sinned Club on Fatima Jinnah Road. Arif Naqvi, of Abraaj Capital, and Fawzia Naqvi's brother, is fronting for Zardari.
Ah, had we been as vigilant about the Taliban as you are about Zardari …
ReplyDeletevery good point magnum
ReplyDelete@Magnum & Omar, he does worth! check cited 3rd position holder and his earning sources!

@ OR.Q your silence on comments made by Faisal and Anon above him is meaningful
ReplyDeletehahaha -- silence is golden sir/madam
ReplyDeleteLol!! hmmmm good luck OR.Q :)
ReplyDeleteDoes this mean mahim and kamal have "really" ganged up against u orq, so much so that u plan to quit? but how? and why? I always thought ks was ur frnd.
ReplyDeleteanonymous - i will answer all your questions if you tell me who you are

ReplyDeleteI heard Fakir has sold his home for 46 crores to Arif Naqvi.
ReplyDeleteI happen to be someone who was once associated with the group and then let go, on the premise of downsizing, etc. Because thing had to be tight, and money was scarce, etc.
ReplyDeleteToday, I attended a luncheon with Jalal of J&S3 (formerly J&S3). With one of the daughters of Amber Saigol getting married a budget of Rs 11 Million has been set aside for the wedding.
Here she comes to us and preaches how we have to be frugal and on the other end, I hear this. Granted this is HER money and she can do anything she wants, but it is conniving, that when she was spending money on expensive items like software, servers, etc. in DMG and DN, and I advised her against it - I was the minority. Have thrown Millions of Rupees to IBM, etc. which was wasted in our opinion - and by our I say over 80 people who have been associated with the project, including archival, networks, web, etc. and she has the right to tell us to be frugal.
A seth at the end of the day is a seth.
I don't wish ill to anyone, but I am massively disappointed.
What is the connection between Zardari and Abraaj Capital? I've heard whispers that he is a share-holder, or even a co-founder, hidden behind a variety of aliases and/or front-companies. How much information is available about this? Sources/links? Thank you for any leads!
ReplyDeleteP.S. I mean to the main Abraaj firm in Dubai (Arif Naqvi), not Abraaj-Pak (Naveed Ismail). Ties to the latter, via KESC etc., are well-known. I'm interested if Zardari has financial ties to Abraaj-Dubai, perhaps from the time he lived in Dubai?
