Speech of the Day

Finally, someone in the National Assembly, who has the guts to say what must be said about the assassination of Federal Minister for Minorities Affairs, Shahbaz Bhatti.

The legislator is MNA Asiya Nasir, elected on a reserved women's seat from Balochistan, the only minority female legislator in the National Assembly and speaking the day after the murder. She holds a Masters in English literature from the Government Girls College, Quetta and a certificate in Teachers' Training and is a member of the NGO Aurat Foundation. She has been a member of the House since 2002 when she was elected on a reserved seat for minorities. Remarkably, she is affiliated politically with the Jamiat-e-Ulema-e-Islam - Fazlur Rehman (JUI-F) and was elected in 2002 (as well as in 2008) on a ticket of the 'religious' parties alliance, the Muttaheda Majlis-e-Amal (MMA).

A powerful speech that should be heard by all in Pakistan, especially because it raises uncomfortable truths...

Its great to see someone challenge the impotent condemnation of parliament, that too with so much passion. Its a shame that such people are only visible after such tragedies. Why dont we hear much more off them in the day to day running of legislative affairs? Are we hooked to the gaffes, name calling in parliament that words of actual substance are shared one you tube video at a time?

Her speech is pretty good, but her voice is pretty loud and whiny. And is she a christian or muslim? She's pretty bold and outspoken. I hope she stays safe.

You are neither a muslim nor a pakistani.

Any-one local who has gone through first 5 minutes of the video would know she is is christian

It is ironic that after the lady had powerfully stated what the stalwarts of the house were supposed to do, her own party members chose to stay mum and, reportedly, refused to join her in the walk out that she carried out against the house's cold behaviour afterwards.

And then they complain of not being taken seriously!

The terrorism that has engulfed Pakistan has its source in Musharraf's decision to prostrate himself before the Americans. Terrorism in Pakistan has followed the pattern of similar outrages in Iraq. In particular, the establishment of "Pakistani Taliban" by the CIA was a "master stroke" in its plans to terrorise Pakistani society and to gain entry into Pakistan as its "saviours". The arrest of "Raymond Davis" has brought home to gullible Pakistanis the close link between the Pakistani Taliban and the CIA.

We must learn to distinguish between out and out terrorists and Muslim fanatics such as Mumtaz Qadri and the ignorant hordes supporting him. The fanatics tend to act on the spur of the moment, without planning. The clever planning behind the murder of Shahbaz Bhatti points to the involvement of people who knew well about Mr Bhatti's movements. The circumstantial evidence appears to point towards the CIA-Pakistani Taliban-Interior Ministry collusion.

The CIA made one extraordinary blunder when it carelessly tossed around leaflets – apparently, some time after the murder - with Rasul-Allah's name printed on them. No Muslim fanatics would ever do a thing like that - getting Rasul-Allah's name trampled underfoot would be inconceivable. The other mistake the USA government has made is to cave in to CIA’s pressure and continue to claim “diplomatic immunity” for the CIA’s asset “Raymond Davis”. Once his trial gets under way – if it does – we may learn the hideous truth behind a lot of terrorist acts carried out in Pakistan in the recent past.

Before blaming Zia only, lets not forget that extremism was given the status of state policy during the 90s. The Army chiefs and the intelligence chiefs of the 90s should hang their heads in shame.... Look what you have done to Jinnah's Pakistan!
...and oh by the way Gen Jehangir Karamat lives in the U.S and most of the children of these generals have studied abroad.

I was confused because the article said she works with Jamiat-e-Ulema-e-Islam and she has a muslim seeming name, and when I posted that comment I was halfway through the video.

Also, do you know that if any muslim wrongly accuses another of not being a muslim, then that person himself is considered a kaafir? Bye now, hope you enjoy hellfire.

Bravo Asiya Nasir. What a beautiful, ariticulate and passionate speech.

Finally, no turning the other cheek to evil silence.

It was strange to see the JUI slapping desks in support - hypocrisy has no bounds.

I completely agree with her. She is fantastic. Our political leaders need to raise their voice and stand up against tyranny.

To the former Pakistani Non-Muslim above - Mr.Jinnah's wife was not a Muslim, ok, so? He made poor personal life decisions, but that's his personal matter and has no bearing on the current situation.

This murder had nothing to do with Islam, the religion of peace. It is ignorant people, like yourself, who have contorted it to justify their nefarious activities.

Quit this Islamic BS? Hate the player, not the game you son of a motherless goat.

@angelic

The way you end your comment with unnecessary swearing sounds more satanic than angelic. Al-Qur'an teaches not just peace but also patience, tolerance and letting go/forgiveness.

Salaam.

Angelic,
It's obvious to the readers of this forum that based on your personal ignorance that you have no idea as to why this politician was murdered. Let me enlighten you, he was murdered under the blasphemy pretext that the Muslim radical community in Pakistan use as an excuse under the Shahria Islamic law to justify their ridiculous version of Islam. It is clearly out of control and is in dire need of a reality check. For the moderate Muslims in Pakistan this is going to be an unfortunate situation, they are outnumbered 10-1, as evidenced at this slain politicians funeral when the Prime Minister along with others refused to refute the blasphemy bullshit. You need to dig your head out of your %$#@& and learn to adjust to a civilized world otherwise simply go join the Pakistani Taliban and in due time a drone will find its mark. How would you feel if radicals in the Western world started targeting innocent Muslims for death? Yep, I didn't think so, but don't think that's an impossibility these days either, times have changed!!!

^Anonymous,
And how do you know that this politician was murdered by the Muslim radical community under the pretext of blasphemy? Oh wait I get it, you must've read those pamphlets left at the scene of the crime by said extremists, very authentic source indeed! I guess he was an easy target for them right? and getting to other opponents of the blasphemy law like sherry rehman is impossible because she lives on a different planet. Good for our country's bitch ass liberals that your logic, like yourself, is retarded otherwise we would see them being murdered right left and center. I won't deny that the so called Pakistani Taliban could've been behind this and that they would have you believe that this is why they did it, but then again like I said if Namoos-e-Resalat was the ultimate goal then there are other big targets they could go after, but they don't and you won't be able to understand why because that would be too much for your feeble mind to comprehend.

You know what, you're the one who needs to come out from under your rock and see the light! Don't know what the hell you were smoking down there, but seems pretty good as it has managed to completely fuck you up.

Hey Angelic,
I see the Muslim world in shambles at this present day and time. There was a time when Shites lived alongside Sunnis and everybody else. Now it a global screwup, and Pakistan is in the forefront. Incidentally Islam is for sale, while we're on the subject. I see that they left Raymond Davis go for a couple of million, under some sort of Islamic compensation farce, it's probably the only religion I know of that has monetary compensation, but it does'nt surprise me. While we're on the subject the Indian actress married to a Pakistani is making headlines that her life is being threatened as well by the mullahs -supposedly for being quite social and outspoken. The sooner India or the US or any other nation takes Pakistan over the world is going to be a safer and better place. I only hope when it happens they line up all the radical preachers and hang them publicly by the balls for the world to see. That should serve as a detterent to other Muslim nations that Islam is a religion of faith and not convenience. Grow a beard, preach rubbish and you are bound to become a target sooner or later, one only hopes that it's sooner. Since your comments appear to be personal I'd like to welcome you to a world of toilet paper and not stones along the roadside. I don't want to shake your hand either way.
